Nitrocarburizing of parts: up to 11 times higher strength and wear resistance

Karbaz offers a range of modern metal hardening technologies, among which nitrocarburizing holds a special place. Nitrocarburizing is a thermochemical treatment of metals in which the surface of products is gradually saturated with nitrogen and carbon. This technology significantly increases the strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of parts.

Advantages of nitrocarburizing

Nitrocarburizing of steel and cast iron increases the wear resistance of parts by 2–11 times and delays the onset of corrosion as much as possible. This hardening method is suitable for all grades of steel and cast iron, ensuring high quality and durability of products. The main advantages of nitrocarburizing include:

  • Increased wear resistance: nitrocarburizing increases the wear resistance of parts several times over, which is especially important for components subject to constant friction and loads.
  • Higher fatigue strength: the treatment increases the fatigue strength of parts by 50–80%, extending their service life.
  • Lower coefficient of friction: nitrocarburizing reduces the coefficient of friction by 1.5–5 times, which reduces wear and heat generation during operation.
  • Improved corrosion resistance: the technology significantly increases the corrosion resistance of carbon (non-stainless) steels, which is especially important in aggressive environments.

Karbaz technical capabilities

Our facility has extensive technical capabilities for nitrocarburizing a wide variety of parts. We offer:

  • Crane lifting capacity up to 2 tonnes: this allows us to treat large and heavy parts.
  • Throughput of up to 4 tonnes per day: high capacity allows us to complete orders in the shortest possible time.
  • Lead time of 1–2 working days: fast order fulfillment is one of our key advantages.

We can treat ring-type parts up to 940 mm in diameter and up to 500 mm high (up to 950 mm using the flip technique), as well as shaft-type parts up to 420 mm in diameter and up to 2,300 mm long (up to 4,500 mm using the flip technique). The technology also allows local hardening by partially immersing parts in the molten salt.

Nitrocarburizing process

Liquid (salt bath) nitrocarburizing is carried out in a molten bath of carbonate and cyanate salts at 540–600°C. Cutting tools are held in the bath for 50 minutes, while parts and mechanisms require 2 to 8 hours.

The following parts can be nitrocarburized:

  • Gears and gear wheels
  • Augers, sprockets and worms
  • Pump motors
  • Shut-off valves
  • Compressors
  • Other components (loader augers, drums, crankshafts, bushings, harrow discs, sprockets, harrow tines, gear wheels, bearing housings, bearings, brackets, knives, shredders, gearbox axles, rear axle shafts, springs, tensioner rollers, flanges, gears, pulleys, etc.)

Why choose Karbaz

We offer high-quality nitrocarburizing of parts made from any grade of steel and cast iron. Our technology delivers the following results:

  • High quality performance: wear resistance increased by 2–11 times, fatigue strength increased by 50–80%, coefficient of friction reduced by 1.5–5 times, and improved corrosion resistance of carbon steels.
  • Efficiency and cost-effectiveness: fast saturation (0.5–6 hours) and uniform heating and saturation in the molten salt.
  • No additional finishing: the nitrocarburized layer is not brittle, so fully finished parts can be treated without additional finishing operations.

We take pride in our professionalism and the quality of service we provide to our clients. Contact Karbaz for a consultation and to order nitrocarburizing services. We guarantee reliability, high quality and prompt fulfillment of your orders.
